Riverdale Park Station Master Plan
“Riverdale Park is a transformative development project …” — Rushern Baker III, Prince George’s County Executive
Riverdale Park, Maryland
MV+A designed the master plan of the 38-acre Riverdale Park Station. This “smart growth” project, located inside the beltway, is a 10-minute walk to the metro and MARC rail systems and fronting on US Route 1 and just a quarter mile from East-West Highway, a major connector through Prince George’s and Montgomery County. The plan adds a vehicular and pedestrian bridge over the CSX railroad tracks to the east, connecting to more than one million square feet of ongoing development by the University of Maryland. An improved hiker/biker trail extends north and south through the site connecting adjacent neighborhood and towns using the abandoned Rhode Island Avenue streetcar right of way. The design team has worked with the surrounding towns and planning staff to create a vibrant and sustainable neighborhood with a solid retail component, a variety of housing options, and integrated public space.
