Gateway at University Town Center is an important retail anchor to one of Prince George’s County’s first mixed‑use, transit‑oriented developments‑a development that has been evolving over the last 50 years. Situated at the corner of East‑West Highway and America Boulevard in Hyattsville, The project is the first project in a planned re-framing of the main entry to University Town Center along East-West Highway and brings a long‑awaited full‑service grocery to the area.
Covering an entire city block, the building features multiple façades, civic-scaled art installations, and a public plaza along East‑West highway. The primary façade’s crowning feature is a 25‑foot‑tall by 175‑foot‑long steel trellis that stretches in front of the Safeway storefront at a scale that responds to the nearly 30,000 cars that pass the building every day.
