Re-Utilize + Revitalize
The York is a grocery-anchored, mixed-use residential community with the ambitious goal of re-utilizing the decades-old, suburban grocery model for a struggling urban site. Located at a pivotal intersection in Towson, MD—Towsontown Boulevard and York Road—this project provides a critical piece of urbanism for downtown Towson by integrating a much-needed mix of programs on a very constrained site to bolster and sustain a central, walkable neighborhood with easy access to fresh food and other much needed amenities.
Proximity to Towson University, and an innovative approach to flexible housing, aimed primarily towards students, affords a diverse and dynamic residential population. All major building programs—anchor grocery, plaza retail, and residences—have ancillary indoor and outdoor amenity spaces designed to foster positive, informal social interaction among the building users as well as connectivity with the neighborhood.
